Chapter 6 – Teleportation Part 3

It’s been a long day at work. You glance at the time on your PC, and to your dismay there’s still a sluggish hour to go before you are off the clock. You push your chair back and close your eyes, imagining what it must be like back at home in your nice, quiet room with the gentle breeze of a fan cooling you off. The image is so clear that you can practically feel it. Opening your eyes, you go back to work to find your PC isn’t responding to your inputs. In fact, all your coworkers have stopped moving, frozen in place. After running around for a while, trying to understand the situation, you go home. Once there, you notice that the clock is moving again. You’ve just (technically) teleported.

The third method of teleportation is temporal translocation. I personally think this is one of the more interesting methods, as you still put in the work to…
Excuse me for a moment.

Traveler and I pulled him aside. We wanted him to reassess the topic before moving forward.

Teleportation – instantaneous travel between two locations without crossing the intervening space.

…

Some of you may see that this method of “teleportation” does not follow the typical definition of teleportation. The instantaneous travel holds true by technicality alone, as others perceive it as such. The “without crossing the intervening space” is trickier. If you see it as hopping into an alternate reality where time is frozen, you can technically get around without actually crossing space(at least the normal space). If you would like to view it as the ability to freeze time, be my guest. We are all players here, and in this matter I’m willing to concede.

Still, I imagine this method of “insert your name for it here” works as follows. When you wish it, time stops moving around you. While time is still, your ability to deal with objects in motion other than yourself is extremely limited. You can run around as much as you want, but if you ever touch a person, animal, plant, or object that is integrally connected to the forward motion of time (like a flowing stream, clock, or falling object), time resume. To the world, you’ve teleported. And by that grounds, whether teleportation or not, I want to play.

I think this would be so much fun. Unlike fantasy teleportation, you can choose exactly where to reappear, which means you can technically reappear in the spot you left (or at least very close to it). You could investigate areas you would never be able to get to, which could result in you becoming a super detective, finding the locations of clues no one else could, saving time.

This method has fewer threats to fantasy teleportation. When using fantasy teleportation, you cannot see who is at the location you are teleporting to. Temporal translocation allows you to see exactly what the layout of the place you choose to teleport to is like, thus protecting you from accidental discovery. The real danger is navigating a frozen world. Please close your eyes and imagine for a couple of minutes a moment in time, unmoving and unchanging.

Now, do it again, and try to navigate around any objects, animals, or people with active kinetic energy (energy in motion).

Depending on how crowded or active the environment around your moment is, it could be quite difficult to maneuver around a scene without coming out of teleportation. (We should call a state of inactive time something else for now and the future. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. ~ Keeper)
I imagine an active city street, buildings lit up on either side by an overbearing sunlight. Cars, frozen in place. People out for a walk with their dog. A group of children playing hopscotch down an alley. This wouldn’t be too hard. If not for the rain coming down on one half of the street. Can’t go there at all. Rain is kryptonite to this power. Other forms of precipitation would cause issues as well.

If that wasn’t a problem, I’d put this through the same tests as I did the fantasy teleportation. It is dangerous if you get caught. Would you not use this power in order to protect yourself from government scrutiny and capture? I would be too overconfident in my ability to maneuver frozen space to not use it. Same purposes as before too. No driving. Messing with people would be a bit more challenging, especially if there was some sort of cool down to the power. That’s up for you to decide while playing with this power. Visiting places would be less practical. Instead I’d use the power to play detective, as suggested prior.

While fantasy teleportation is more risky, it is overall the more powerful choice from my perspective. But what’s your opinion? Do you think this method is better than fantasy teleportation or matter relocation (or both)? Do you think temporal translocation is teleportation at all? What scene did you imagine when you closed your eyes? Was it peaceful (or something worse)? Are there ways you can see to negate the rain? Most importantly, what would you do with this power, or would you stay safe and do nothing at all?

I hope to hear feedback from you all soon. It would mean a lot. As always, thanks for playing.
